Climbing iron for poles - has foot pedal depressed to raise front of cranked bar up pole while pivoted section grips pole rear

The climbing irons are used for ascending poles and are strapped one to each foot. On depressing the pedal, the front of the iron is raised whilst a shorter pivoted section grips at the rear. A plastic coating improves grip. The main part (1) is a metal bar, its front portion cranked upwards and the free end bent horizontally to enclose the pole profile. The rear of this part has the foot pedal (3). A pivot (4) is fitted at the crank, locating one end of the shorter section (2) of bar. The free end of this is also shaped to enclose the pole.
