The socket assembly consists of a socket proper with a part engaging a recess of a light fitting and an element for fastening the socket part in the light fitting housing. The fastening element consists of a front cap (5) for securing to the light fitting housing (3). The cap has a holding wall (8), extending in the housing longitudinal direction and having a recess (6) for coupling to the socket part (2). Preferably a peripheral recess (4) is provided in the light fitting housing and in the holding wall. The edge regions of the recesses are provided with latching elements (7) for the socket part, which are aligned for mutual abutment. The front cap may be centered by inner or outer clamping walls.
