Rolled or drawn bar of hard or half-hard material is supplied by a conveyor and fed through a tapered hole in the disc which forms part of the lower shear unit. The upper shear unit has a central double edged blade held by a coiler against the member attached to a press. Two fixed blades are fitted on either side of the moving blade. The fixed blades are supported on upper pistons operated hydraulic fluid and lower pistons. When the press pushes the blade downwards the bar is sheared on both sides of the blade, with a clean cut providing a finish comparable with a ground surface.
