<p>Cationic, H2O-soluble amine-epichlorhydrin polycondensates have the structural formula: A- CH2-CHOH-CH2-B -n CH2-CHOH-CH2-A where n is a whole number. A is a residue of formula: to produce a branching of the polymer chain; Y = residue attached to A in original formula; X is 1-12C polymethylene gp., -CH2-CHOH-CH2-, -CH2-CH2-O-CH2-CH2- or -CH2-CH=CH-CH2-; R is a straight or branched aliphatic gp. with 1-20C atoms and 0, 1 or 2 C=C double bonds or with 1-6C atoms and sone or more Cl- or OH-substits., an alicyclic gp. or an alkaryl gp.; R' gps. can be same or difft. and are the same types as R or an aryl gp. and R" is a 1-6C straight chain aliphtic gp. Used in the paper industry for improving sheet drainage, retention of abraded fibre particles, dyestuffs, pigments, fillers, starch or rubber compsns. and for improving strength. Also suitable for prepn. of electrically conductive paper, sizing of paper and pulp or sepn. of minerals by pretreatment of ores. In addn., the prods. are suitable for improving colorability and colour fastness of textiles and the bonding of H2O-repellent or flameproof finishes to fabrics. Have wider range of applications than previous cationic polymers and avoid the use of the poisonous monomer ethyleneimine which is a known carcinogen.</p> |
