<p>In the sealing of an opening a tube plate at the position where the end of a pipe of the heat exchanger is welded in a bore in the plate, using a hollow metal plug containing locally explosive material and detonating means, which is placed in the cavity within the plate and is thereafter radially expanded by detonating the explosive in such a way that it forms a gas- and liquid- tight joint with the wall of the heat exchanger surrounding the cavity, (i) a plug divided by a partition wall into two coaxial cavities, each open at one end and contg. an explosive charge and detonator and (ii) after the plug has been placed in position within the relevant cavity in the tube plate, both charges are exploded (nearly) simultaneously. There is no risk of crack corrosion between the tube plate and the closed end of the plug.</p> |
