<p>A log cutting machine in which the bark is removed by a saw blade, then the log is rotated to cut another face, has its cutting jaws operated by a piston and cylinder device (4). The gripping mechanism has a vertical guide post (5) with a fixed jaw (3) at the bottom and sliding jaws on a carriage (2) at the top. The carriage has a fixed jaw (6) projecting from it, mounted above a retractable jaw (7). The carriage also has an electromagnetic member with a plate acting as a brake on the vertical guide post. The actuator cylinder is parallel to the post, attached at the bottom to the base frame, and with its spindle attached to the carriage.</p> |
