1535367 Photovoltaic devices EXXON RESEARCH & ENG CO 26 March 1976 [2 April 1975] 12221/76 Heading H1K A photovoltaic device consists of a layer comprising at least one organic compound having on one surface an ohmic contact and on the other surface a Schottky barrier-forming contact. The criterion for selecting the organic compound is that it has the capacity to sensitize or desensitize a material selected from silver halides, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, cadmium sulphide, selenium and polyvinylcarbazole. The ohmic contact is formed of a material having a work function greater than that of aluminium and the Schottky contact is formed of a material having a work function equal to or less than that of aluminium. Numerous materials are disclosed for the contacts and the organic layer. Light may be incident on either of the contacts, optionally through a transparent support sheet. |
