<p>The pump has an outer wheel with gear teeth on the inside. This meshes with a pinion on the inside of the outer wheel whose centre is offset from that of the outer wheel. The outer wheel is driven by a chain or gear drive from outside. The twisting moment produced by this is taken up by radial and axial bearings on the pump flange. A spacer piece between the two gears on the side opposite to that on which they mesh is constructed in two halves (a, b) which spigot together and are forced apart by a spring to fill the gap and keep the gears in mesh. This provides automatic compensation for wear and improves the pump performance.</p> |
