In order to generate large pattern repeats with high guide-bar offsets, along with a relatively high working speed, there are arranged between a pattern warp (1) and a guide bar (6) force-transmission elements (4), by which a pneumatic digitally controllable piston system is formed. The control of the piston system takes place by means of a reader (7) sensing holes in a punched tape. So that the offset achieved by the pattern warp can be compensated, supplemented or replaced, the force-transmission elements are selectively designed to be rigid or of variable length. The working speed can be varied, during the functioning of the pneumatics, by means of a variable-speed motor. The extreme thread demand suddenly occurring in the event of high offsets is supplied to a store (9) likewise controlled via the reader. The apparatus can be selectively mounted on warp-knitting machines and makes it possible to product warp knits with large and versatile patterns. <IMAGE>
