The heating spiral (3) may be made of platin um, tungsten or copper. The leads (4) for this heater are insulated with plastics material, and run along the central channel of the catheter (1) which is itself made of plastics material. The wires may run outside the catheter. The balloon may be filled with air or with plastics material, and the plastics may be melted by the electric heater, X-ray contrast medium may be injected through the catheter to facilitate positioning of the end of the catheter e.g. in a vein in the leg. |
