Parent Patent describes an appts. for the irradiation of flowable media which consists at least partly of a liquid, for the purpose of carrying out chemical reactions or producing reaction prods. The appts. comprises a stationary rotationally symmetrical vessel having a wall permeable to the radiation, one or mroe radiation sources arranged around the vessel and a central, rotary cleaner revolving inside the vessel and fitted with relatively stiff, cylindrical rods mounted in radial bores and sweeping the inner face of the vessel to keep it clean from deposits. In the addn., the rotary cleaner block comprises one or more recycling ducts, open at both ends, leading from the bottom, central region radially upwards and outwards to the periphery of the rotary block. There may be several such ducts, leading at the bottom end of the block into a common suction inlet opening. The appts. is used for carrying out chemical reactions on a liquid fed with a drip feed. In the patent of addn., the recycling duct is used for checking the effective performance of the vessel; this is done by introducing a celibrating liquid to known compsn. into the inlet while the outlet valve is closed; as the liquid builds up in the bottom cavity of the vessel, it is recycled up a duct and discharged at after a relatively short time for analysis. This analysis gives an indication of the performance of the vessel.
