<p>A selective nutrient compsn. for the determination of lipolytic microorganisms comprises peptone, yeast extract or meta extract, agar-agar and fats or other cleavable glycerides and 0.4 vol. % hydrogenated castor oil contg. 20 oxyethylene units (I) homogeneously to disperse the water-insoluble components. Used partic. for the colorimetric determination of the quality (freshness) of fatty foodstuffs. Laboratory prepn. of samples is simplified. (I), in the concn. used is non-toxic w.r.t. to any microorganism under test and is cleaved by many of them. It is resistant to the temps. used to sterilise the nutrient medium, is easier to meter in than solid surfactants and is dispersed in the medium by simply stirring. The cost of the mediumis appreciably reduced.</p> |
