The baler (1) has a chassis (3) positioned on an axle (2), with two parallel sides (4) and a pickup cylinder (5). The side (4) have discharge flaps (6, 7) which move by means of a hydraulic piston cylinder unit. The sides (4) and the discharge flaps (6, 7) have rollers (8) which form a winding-up compartment, together with the sides (4) and the flaps (6, 7). One flap (7) has a knotting device (10), whilst the other flap (6) has a needle (11) operating in conjunction with the knotting device (10). The baler (1) has a support carriage (12) attached to it, with a support side (13) which can be moved from a blocking position to a discharge position.
