The cutting device for a continually fed strip has two counter working shear blades. One circulating shear blade (103) has a cut-off edge (105) and is fitted on a cylindrical shaft (101) and a fixed blade flexibly contacts with its cut-off edge (205) that of th circulating blade. A drive is provided for the circulating blade (103) and a measurement probe is available to determine, starting from a commencement position, the rotary angle of the circulating blade. The circulating blade can be braked and a control signal transmitted to the brake and drive (400) on conformity of the angle of rotation with an adjusted angle. The circulating blade (103) can then be maintained in a predetermined angular position.
