The synchronous or asynchronous motors (6) are connected to a three-phase network (4) in the case of said three-phase network having a low frequency, and are accelerated when the network frequency increases. In order to reduce the protection complexity, the individual motors (6) are protected by fuses (14), dispensing with motor protection circuit breakers in their phase supply lines. The operating current of said fuses (14) corresponds to 1.05 to 1.2 times the respective motor rated current. The current consumption of the motors does not exceed these operating values in the connection phase and acceleration phase. The simplified overload protection circuit is particularly suitable for use in the case of a draw-twister machine. <IMAGE>
