The vehicle air conditioning system has a compressor pump (C) driven off the engine and an expansion coil (E) for the cooling effect. A flow restriction valve controls the input pressure of the expansion coil to prevent damage. The valve monitors the relative values of the compressor output and a fixed pressure e.g. the inlet manifold pressure or atmospheric pressure. As the pressure increases so the flow to the expansion coil is reduced. The system allows the compressor to be continually driven off the engine, so that there are no sudden torque changes through uncoupling the drive. This leads to smoother transmission control and a simplified control system. |
