<p>1417053 Ballustrade CHARLES YOUNG PTY LTD 19 July 1973 [8 Aug 1972] 34528/73 Heading E1B A ballustrade comprises a pair of spaced apart channel section members 10, 10a, the open faces of which being directed toward one another and being provided with a pair of opposed longitudinally extending flanges 14, 14a, longitudinal extending engagement means being provided in the base of each channel member e.g. resilient wings 15, 15a; a plurality of ballasters 11 extending between the channel section members 10, 10a provided at each end with a pair of transverse shoulders 18, 18a and having an end face in resilient engagement with the engagement means; the ballusters 11 each having a cross-sectional shape adjacent each end so that the end can be inserted into the space between the flanges and can be rotated through a predetermined angle to engage the slots 18, 18a with the inner surfaces of the flanges; and a spacing member 17, 17a extending between adjacent balusters in juxtaposition with at least one of said channel section members. The spacing member may be of channel shape and suitably fits resiliently between the flanges of one of the channel shaped members, preferably both, to cover the open face thereof. Alternatively the spacing member may be a panel of sheet material such as glass, plastics or wall board which fills the space between two adjacent ballusters and the channel section members and is engaged thereto by means of a rubber seal (Fig. 3, not shown). The ballustrade unit may be mounted to newel posts along their length and/or at their ends. The newel post may extend above the level of the upper channel section member and is connected to a hand rail.</p> |
