PURPOSE:To prepare the title compound, useful as polymerization inhibitor, material for medicines, etc., by oxidation of 4-t-butylphenol with hydrogen peroxide and an org. carboxylic acid, such as formic acid, in the presence of a solid phosphoric acid catalyst, without elimination of the t-butyl radical. |
