1448146 Aluminium alloys; anodizing ALUMINUM CO OF AMERICA 11 Sept 1973 [20 Sept 1972] 42694/73 Headings C7A and C7B An aluminium base alloy consists, by weight, of: 0.4 to 0.6% copper 0.1 to 0.25% chromium 0.08 to 0.18% silicon and the balance being aluminium together with not more than the following amounts of other elements: - 0.3% iron, 0.5% manganese, 0À1% magnesium, 0.05% zinc, 0.05% titanium, other elements being limited to 0.05% each to a total of 0.1%. These alloys are preferably homogenized at 1000 to 1150‹F, hot-rolled at between 300 and 800‹F and optionally cold-rolled with an intermediate anneal to produce sheet products which are particularly suited for architectural purposes, e.g. for the exterior walls of high-rise buildings. These sheets may be bent or formed without cracking and may be anodized to provide an integral coloured oxide coating, using an aqueous bath of sulphophthalic acid, sulphosuccinic acid, sulphosalicylic acid and/ or sulphuric acid. The aluminium sheet products may form part of a composite, the core of the composite being provided by another aluminium alloy, e.g. one containing up to 2% manganese, and the cladding operation being incorporated prior to rolling. |
