1378534 Applying pierce-nuts MACLEANFOGG LOCK NUT CO 23 March 1972 [26 Oct 1971] 13693/72 Heading B3H A pierce-nut applying apparatus has an adapter tube 20 which enables the apparatus to be used to apply pierce-nuts into a sheet workpiece at a position near a recess or flange whereas without the tube the apparatus is only suitable for flat workpieces. The nuts are fed in strip form 18, Fig. 2, and are severed by a punch 17 which loads them into the tube. The lower end of the tube 20 has a workpiece clamping face 22 which holds the workpiece against a lower die 24. Each pierce-nut is applied to the workpiece 25 by the force from the punch 17 transmitted through the nuts above it. The tube 20 may be provided with a latch plate (27), Fig. 6 (not shown), backed-up by an elastomeric pad (31) to retain the nuts in the tube. The latch plate has a flange (28) slidable in a groove 29 and limited by a pin (32) and slot (33) connection. |
