<p>A hand-controlled brake valve (1) is for compressed air brakes, e.g. on a bus. It comprises a control handle or lever (28) capable of being moved in two directions from the normal driving position to activate the brake valve (1) which controls the supply of air from an air reservoir to an emergency brake or a parking brake and/or a short halt brake acting on the main brake circuit and/or for controlling a pilot have for towing, in which a nonreturn valve (47, 48) prevents the escape of air from the air reservoir during short halts.
