The small domestic cutter can be operated by one hand and is esp. useful for opening packets. A cutting slot (11) runs along its length. A guide rail has a thumb-support plate (12) at one end. A slide (2) is guided along the rail and has grips projecting from either side. The slide has a knife (3) whose cutting edge projects diagonally in the slot (11). The knife can be guided on both sides of the slot (11). The slide can be formed in two parts. A spring (13) serves to guide the slide (2) in conjunction with the guide rail. A projection (16) defines the end position of the slide (2).
