A consumable cutting tip (3) is held in position on the tool (1) by a screw (4). The end of the tool (2) is recessed to locate the tip and hold it against horizontal forces at right angles to the tool. A hole (5) is drilled and tapped into the tool at an angle so that at the point of contact (12) between the screw (7) and tip (3) an axial force is exerted to hold the tip in the vertical direction. A friction force is also produced to hold the tip against horizontal forces along the length of the tool. The screw (7) has a large chamfered head (6) to cover the tip and a recess (11) is made in the tool to accommodate this.
