The bullet is particularly for a hunting firearm, being of greatly reduced section and slightly lighter than the standard one for the particular calibre. This gives higher muzzle velocity and much less deceleration during the flight to the target, so that there is a higher speed of impact. The section of the bullet can be roughly 50% of that of the gun barrel, it being accommodated in a wad whose section is equal to that of the barrel. The wad can be tulip-shaped, the petals being held in contact with the bullet by a sliding ring when travelling up the barrel. They open on leaving the barrel so as to release the bullet.
