A roll nip device involving a small heavy toothed wheel (2) bearing obliquely upon a toothed border on a larger wheel (1) of lightweight construction is claimed for use when unrolling plastic film across a surface. The small wheel is inclined by 20-70 deg. with respect to the larger wheel. The non-toothed edge of the larger wheel is radiused to avoid tearing the film. The degree of movement of the combined supports of the nip wheels is limited by mechanical stops (7). The point of contact on the circumference of the large wheel is adjustable (3).
