<p>The cargo hatchcover for non-seagoing ships comprises a number of identical panels (5-7) of sheet steel, reinforced and which extend across the width of the hatch. At each end, links (16) run from a pivot (15) near one edge of each panel to another pivot (17) near the middle of the next. At the other panel edges there are rollers (10) held in an outward facing U-shaped guide rail (11) set level with the top of the coaming (3). A horizontal bar (18) runs the length of the hatch under the lower pivots (17) of the links between the panels, mounted on further pivoted links (19, 20) from the coaming. There is a worm and wheel (28, 27) drive to the end link for raising the bar, simultaneously lifting the panels and rotating them about their corner rollers (10).</p> |
