1526952 Cable cleaning unit PHIDO (WIRE SERVICES) CO Ltd 11 March 1976 [14 March 1975] 10813/75 Headings D1L and D1T A cable cleaning unit comprising an annular nozzle chamber 54, 54a, Fig. 1, that can surround a section of a cable and be moved relatively thereto contains a plurality of nozzles 58 for directing jets of high pressure oil onto the surface of the cable at an acute angle, a spin-off chamber 60 for receiving oil and impurities from the cable and a plurality of turbo-vanes 62 in the spin-off chamber 60 for directing oil and impurities to an outlet 63. When the two halves 54, 54a of the nozzle chamber are closed together about a cable, brush elements 57, 66 seal-off the two ends of the nozzle. Each nozzle is an oval shaped pinhole and each pinhole may be surrounded by an elongated groove so that oil emitted from the pinhole fans out. The nozzles 58 are mounted in nozzle bodies 70 which are slidable on conduits extending radially from the nozzle bodies to an inlet manifold 75. In the nozzle chamber there are cam plates 71, Fig. 3, formed with cam slots 72. The nozzle bodies 70 are mounted on bolts extending through the slots 72 and when the cam plates 71 are rotated the nozzle bodies 70 are moved radially towards or away from the axis of the unit. Cable traction unit. The nozzle chamber 54, 54a may be coupled to a cable traction unit. In Figs. 7 and 8 the cable passes between a first pair of cable engaging rollers 85, 86 as well as between a second pair of cable engaging rollers 87, 88. A hydraulic ram 101 can move the rollers 86, 88 to and from the cable so as to clamp the traction unit onto the cable. Figs. 7 and 8 shows how the shafts 89, 90 each has a sprocket 93, 94 thereon these sprockets meshing with a driven pinion in which the section 109a is of the opposite thread direction to the section 109b. |
