The piston circumference surface (8) which slides over the cylinder liner exhaust slots is provided with slanting grooves (10). The grooves are fed with lubricating oil from an annular groove (11) located below the bottom compression ring groove (7). The annular groove (11) receives its oil from lubricating oil apertures in the linear wall. The lubricating grooves may cross each other or take the form of parallel waves or zigzag lines. The ends of the lubricating grooves pass between the exhaust slots at bdc to reduce oil losses through the exhaust system.
