Identification plate serial number stamping machine - has multi disc stamping wheels operated by rack and pinion mechanism

The machine for marking serial numbers on identification plates (31) for motor vehicle components has an upper numbering wheel (2) which may be a female mould or matrix member, and a lower numbering wheel (3) for the male mould, each wheel consisting of a side by side set of discs (4, 5) mounted on a spindle (7, 8). Each disc carries a set of characters around its periphery and is operated by a data fed controller. The mechanism which controls their rotation is a rectangular frame with verticals (11) supporting cross members (9, 10) which act as racks to rotate pinions which are the discs. Each frame is in turn actuated by a set of horizontal rods (12 to 15) which move forwards or backwards. The numbering wheels are also raised and lowered to carrying out their stamping action on the plates (31).
