Continuous extrusion of fine wire - extrusion die has cutting edge to remove thread at high speed from surface of rotating cylinder

The extrusion die is a block with the required size hole through it. Underneath this hole is a small lip projecting forwards to form a cutting edge, above the face is angled back for clearance. The material is ductile and in the form of a cylindrical billet, hollow or solid, this rotates in front of the die block and is given a longitudinal feed. The cutting edge removes a thread of material, this passing through the die and is extruded to size, then processed in the normal way, as each layer is removed, the feed direction is reversed.
