Refractory material for repairing blast furnaces consists of 100 pts. wt. of a base material which is mainly a powdered refractory, with 4-40 pts. wt. of a bituminous binder, and 10-35 pts. wt. of a liq. oil employed to provide flowability. The refractory pref. contains SiO2, Al2O3, MgO, Cr2O3, ZrO2, CaO and/or FeO, possibly including 0.5-5.0 pts. wt. of iron ore or metal fibres or inorganic fibres; or including 0.2-6.0 pts. wt. alumina cement, water-free silicate, bentonite and/or clay as a binder. The softening point of the bituminous binder is pref. 70-250 degrees C and the bitumen may be used as a solid or a liq. When the refractory mixt. contains water and is used to repair a hot furnace, the steam generated prevents good adhesion of the refractory to the worn lining. The invention uses a mixt. contg. oil, so good adhesion is obtd., i.e. no water is used. |
