1487183 Boring heads TOOLMASTERS & TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENTS (BIRMING- HAM) Ltd 27 Nov 1974 [8 Dec 1973] 57003/73 Heading B3C In a boring head, comprising a body member 1, adjustable guidance members wear-resistant strips 8 screwed on to tapered, dovetailed shoes 9, Fig. 4, are slidably mounted in undercut (dovetailed) slots 7 of decreasing depth in the body member and adjustable there-along by adjustment means, threaded ring 12, which may be locked by ring 14, to vary the radial position of the strips. The slots amy be inclined, e.g. helically (Fig. 10, not shown), to the axis of the head. To prevent the shoes being drawn out of the head during withdrawal from a bore screws 17 engaged in steeply inclined surfaces 19. In Figs. 2 and 7, two tools 39, 40 fit into facing recesses 2 and 34 in the body member 1 and clamping head 3 which is located on member 1 by pegs 37 and secured by screws in holes 32, 33. The tools are held by screws 35 (Fig. 6, not shown). The rear end of member 1 may have a recess 4 with keyways 20, Fig. 3, for accepting a keyed spigot 5, Fig. 8, of a supporting bar 6 the head being locked on the bar by screws 22 whose coned head 23 engages an eccentric countersink 26 of bore 24, Fig. 1. An 0-ring seal 30 on the spigot seals the joint between lubricating fluid passages 27, 28 in bar and head which lead to outlets 29. The bar may alternatively have a screw-threaded end (46, Fig. 9, not shown) for engaging in a large screwthreaded bore (45) in the end of the body member. |
