1493713 Sleeve couplings ALUMINUM CO OF AMERICA 26 Aug 1975 [12 Sept 1974] 35233/75 Heading H2E An aluminium core grip 4 comprising lobes 6 projecting from a cylinder 8, which has a wall thickness less than a quarter of the peripheral distance between lobes at the outer surface of the cylinder, is adapted to be joined to the reinforcing core 14 of a cable 10 by crimping a surrounding compression barrel 20 against the core grip. The connector may be used for joining a cable to an accessory 30 or to another cable (not shown), the cable or each cable having a solid or stranded, steel or aluminium core with either aluminium or copper conductors disposed around the core. A joint compound 28 is used to seal the connection. The core grip preferably has an abrasive grit on its inner surface and a length which is eight times its internal diameter. The provision of lobes, there may be four (Fig. 8, not shown), allows a core grip to accommodate a greater range of wires and allows the use of lighter tools than would otherwise be possible. |
