1486989 Metallizing polyolefins TOA NENRYO KOGYO K K 9 May 1975 19650/75 Heading C7F An article comprising a polyolefin modified by 0À002 to 3 mole per cent of one or more unsaturated fatty acids or their functional derivatives is coated with metal by vapour deposition in vacuo and the coated article is heat-treated at 5‹ to 70‹C below the melting point of the polymer. The polyolefin may be polyethylene or polypropylene; it may be modified with acrylic, maleic, fumaric, itaconic, citraconic, methacrylic, crotonic, or isocrotonic acid, or methyl endo- or endobicyclo (2,2,1)-5-heptene-2,3-dicarboxylic acid, methyl cis- or cis-4-cyclohexene-1,2-dicarboxylic acid, or endo-bicyclo (2,2,1)-1,2,3,4,7,7-hexachloro- 2-heptene-5,6-dicarboxylic acid, or a functional derivative, e.g. an anhydride, amide, or ester. The polyolefin may include non-modified polyolefin, or a stabilizer, lubricant, filler or pigment. The metal may be Al, Ag, Au, or Cu, applied conventionally. Heat-treatment is preferably for 10 seconds to 1 hour.
|
