A machine tool suitable for carrying out the method, comprises a tool-carrier 2 mounted on a carriage 3 for movement A, the tool carrier itself comprising a sleeve 10 with a slidable piston 12 supporting a tool holder 13 which as shown has helical lubricating channels 23 and an eccentric 15 rotatably driven by motor 21 in a transverse passage 14 so that in combination with rotational and axial reactions on the tool provided by the rotating workpiece 1 and the advancing movement of the tool slide 3, the eccentric 15 provides the periodic movements L and M. Adjustable stop 11 for piston 12 determines the stroke of movement L. |
