1487163 Masted lift trucks TOWMOTOR CORP 5 Feb 1976 [27 May 1975] 04544/76 Heading B8H [Also in Division B7] The hydraulic system 24 of an electricallypropelled fork lift truck comprises a singlehydraulic pump 25 driven by an electric motor 26, and an accumulator 48 for storing fluid energy produced by the pump for subsequent use in powering the hydraulic system without running the pump so as to reduce the energy drain on the battery 29 of the truck by minimizing the frequency of pump start-ups. As shown, the hydraulic system 24 supplies a steering jack 15, a fork lift jack 20, and a lift mast tilt jack 22. A motor switch 31 controlled by a solenoid 60 is connected between the battery 29 and the motor 26. A pressure switch 64 connected to the solenoid 60 operates to start and stop the motor 26 so as to maintain the fluid pressure in the accumulator 48 within a predetermined operating range. A switch 65 also connected to the solenoid 60 operates to start the motor 26 when fast lifting of the lift forks 19 is required.
