As described, the cutting apparatus is mounted in a machine for inserting transparencies into slide frames 10, 11. The strip is fed under the knife 3 as shown in Fig. 1, such that a surface 9 deflects the transparency into the opened slide frame; the knife is then rotated to cause the cutting edge 5 to sever the strip against the blade 7. To sever a spliced or defective portion from the strip, the latter is fed above the knife as shown in Fig. 3, so that that portion is deflected by a surface 8 away from the slide frame and then by rotating the knife the strip is severed by the cutting edge 4 acting against the blade 6.
