The odometer sends out pulses and receives their echoes. The sender comprises devices generating continuous series of pulses whose repetition period is variable and smaller than signal propagation time between signal transmission and its echo reception. Their frequency varies during each pulse duration. The signal produced from the generator is transmitted through two trans receiver transducers. Their transmission axes are symmetrical w.r.t. the verticals. The generator is controlled by a synchronising unit coupled to a pulse train generator. The latter generates three pulse trains with different time intervals. The received signals are converted to rectangular form via two AND gates controlled by the syn. unit.
