<p>1452568 Shaft couplings VOLVO PENTA AB 6 Dec 1974 [13 Dec 1973] 52911/74 Heading F2U A propellor, comprising blades 19 and a sleeve 11, is coupled to a shaft 3 by way of a hub of corrosion-resistant material moulded around the shaft, this hub comprising an inner sleeve 10, an outer sleeve 11 and spokes (12) (Fig. 3, not shown) interconnecting these. The sleeve 18 is mounted on the hub via annular members 16 and 20 of rubber or like material, the sleeve 11, member 16 and sleeve 18 being ribbed to transmit torque, projections of the sleeve 11 and member 16 engaging recesses in the member 16 and the sleeve 18 respectively to assist torque transmission. A nut 25 secures the propellor axially via a washer 26. The exhaust gases of the engine pass through passages 29 and 30 and passages 31 of the nut 25 direct water axially to prevent cavitation. The hub 10, 11 can be of aluminium, and the shaft 3 of carbon steel.</p> |
