1324672 Sealing arrangements for primary cells TIMEX CORP 17 Jan 1972 [18 Jan 1971] 2243/72 Heading H1B A button type of energy cell comprises a cam 11 containing the cathode material 15 separated by separators 14, 31 from the anode material 13 in a cap 10, the lower portion 19 of which is secured by adhesive 20 in a slot 27 and to a shoulder 21 of a flexible annular sealing grommet 12, the outer wall 26 of which is compressed between the swaged-in wall 33 of can 11 and cap 10 to seal the cell. Cap 10 is formed of a conductive material, i.e. a duplex stainless steelphosphor bronze material. The anode material 13 may be a zinc amalgam with an alkaline electrolyte such as potassium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide added to it. The cathode material 15 may be a mixture of mercuric oxide with a small percentage of graphite. The separators may be plastic microporous membrane material. The adhesive may be a mixture of epoxy and polysulphide. Alternatively the cathode material may be a silver oxide-graphite mixture. |
