The viscosity of high-polymer materials travelling around a roll is measured using a second, measuring roll, the material passing through the roll gap between this and the main roll. The gap pressure, gap distance, and the peripheral speed of one roll and/or the other are determined. From these, the viscosity is calculated. The readings may be determined as electrical signals. Viscosities of a wide range of values can be measured. There is no secondary action in the form of the shear forces, which reduce the viscosity by forcing a rise of temperature.
|
