The cutlery basket for use in a dish washing machine is designed to contain the knives and forks etc. whilst permitting free drainage of cleansing liquid through the base (19). The basket is of square hollow box form and has evenly distributed rows of identical square holes (15) in the side walls. the base base of the basket also has square holes forming a grid of perpendicularly opposed co-planar laths (21, 21). Each base hole is further subdivided by at least two converging inclined members. Four such members (23 to 26) may be used, dividing the hole concerned into four similar square sectors (22), and inclining down at 45 deg. from the main grid laths (20, 21) to meet at a point. The subdividing members may be of triangular section.
