Rust inhibiting coatings for steel surfaces which in service come into contact with moisture or are immersed in water, esp. drinking water pipes, are prepd. by use of a paste, applicable by spraying, centrifuging etc. the coating consisting of cement, water and opt. sand, by a process in which immediately after applicn. of the coating the process of hydration and hardening is interrupted by air drying, esp. with warm air and only continued when the duct is full of water and completed progressively in its normal term. A plastic matl. is mixed in with the cement to prevent the cement particles from being washed away by the flowing water after introducing the steel pipe into the pipeline. When used for a drinking water supply pipe a burst pipe must be fixed quickly, so that a pipe coated according to the invention can be installed and the water set flowing again quickly without washing away the unset cement.
|
