The collector has a base plate (5) whose inclination to the horizontal can be varied by means of telescopic supports (17). It has grooves running at right angles to each other into which vertical walls (7, 8) are fitted. These form a set of rectangular chambers (11) each of which is covered with a glass sheet. The walls have openings (12, 13) in their lowest part nearest the absorber. These openings provide a continuous path for air through the collector and are staggered so that the air flows diagonally across the collector in a spiral path. a hinged cover (2) for the whole collector has a reflecting inner surface. In the open position this increases the radiation concentration and pre-warms the air entering the absorbing chambers.
