A fire-proof fabric comprises a continuous metallic web sandwiched between a support web and a woven or non-woven facing web, The assembly is needled pref. with needles having several webs so that some of the fibres of the facing web extend through the metallic web and penetrate the support web to consolidate the three webs and lock them together. Needling is effected so that the continuity of the metallic web is not destroyed. The metallic web dissipates heat away from a burning or potentially hot area. The fabric is easy to produce and doesn't lose its fire-proof qualities on ageing as with chemically treated fabrics. Pref. fibres of the facing web are 1.27-15.25 cm long and the thickness of the metallic webes is 0.0025-0.13 mm. The support web may be jute, cotton, wool, rayon, nylon, polyester, polypropylene, acrylic and may be backed with rubber, polyurethane, PVC foam. The metallic web may be aluminium, magnesium, copper. The facing web may be of the same fibres as the support web.
|
