Fungicidal (2)-chloro-nicotinic acid anilides - prepd. from (2)-chloro-nicotinic acid halide and a (3)-substd. aniline

Nicotinic acid anilides of formula (I) and their acid addn salts are new. In the formula, R is 3-5C alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl or is a chloroallyl gp. and n is 0 or 1. Typical cpd. is 2-chloronicotinic acid -3'-propylanilide. (I) and their acid addn. salts are fungicides and are esp. effective against Basidomycetes e.g. Rhizotonia, Coniophora, Tilletia and against ascomycetes e.g. Erysiphe. Cpds. are used at 0.2-5, pref. 0.5-2, kg per hectare.
