The ejection arrangement for a billet from a billet soaking pit in which the billet ejected, is situated as outermost one on the stack resting on the Pil bottom. The ejecting arm reaches through one pit opening inwards and reciprocates in longitudinal direction. The billet is ejected longitudinally through the other pit opening. The billet is also pushed in transverse direction to make room for the next one. Billets are ejected rapidly and reliably and inherent dwell periods are reduced. The ejection of the billet independent of the forward movement of the stack of billets. The ejection arm (6) is able to rotate on a carriage (9). This carriage can be moved forwards and backwards on a track (10) rollers are arranged under the tracks (10). The arm part reaching into the furnace is provided with a block made from heat resistant material.
