<p>Appliance and use thereof for the simultaneous, continuous degassing and filtration of molten metal, for example aluminium. The molten metal is passed through a first ceramic filter, with a gas, for example a chlorine-containing gas mixture, flowing in the opposite direction to the metal in countercurrent. In this first filter, the molten metal is subjected to the first purification step, while at the same time the very finely dispersed gas comes into intimate contact with the metal and is degassed in the process. In a second ceramic filter of the same type, but having smaller pores as a rule, the molten metal is freed of solid impurities. The appliance essentially comprises a filter chamber having an inlet and an outlet and wall surfaces matching the filter in such a way that the filters can be replaced easily, and also comprises at least one gas supply port below the first and upstream of the second filter.</p> |
