High frequency alternating field crosslinking of esp. polyolefins - using e.g. peroxide(s) which are unstable in the field, to initiate reaction of unexcitable substances

The substance effecting the cross-linking is excited selectively in the high frequency field, and is induced into the condition in which reaction can take place. During the reaction, the synthetic to be cross-linked is not heated directly by the high frequency alternating field, but is only indirectly influenced by the transfer from the substance excited and/or the heat of the reaction taking place. Enables cross-linking in a high or ultra-high frequency field of synthetic materials used in the electrical industry because of their very low dielectrical loss factor, e.g. polyethylene for enveloping cables. Process is independent of heat - the breakdown of the unstable substance or mixture f substances providing the radicals being selectively excited in the high frequency field and induced to react.
