Bactericidal and fungicidal compsns. contain >=1 organotin cpd. of formula R1R2Sn (X CR3R4CH2)2NR5 (R1 and R2 are linear, branched or cyclic 1-10 C alkyl (opt. unsatd) or aryl.R3 and R4 are each H or linear or branched 1-10 C alkyl or together form OXO; R5=H or as R1; X=O or S). (I) are useful as disinfectants; for finishing textiles and plastics; as biocides for coating compsns. and as wood preservatives. Compared with brown organotin biocides they are less irritating to the skin and less toxic to plants and have excellent activity against gram. negative as well as positive bacteria.
